Maternity Sessions

In recent months we have been expaning our studio offerings into family portraits, child photography, dance studios and baby pictures. We're thrilled to include in this group Maternity sessions.

It's an absolutely beautiful time in your life that truly deserves to be captured and cherished. It can be a solo session or invite Dad and any other kids into the pictures as well. We've got three kids of our own (all under the age of 6) and it really is amazing how fast they grow up. Our youngest is about to turn 2 and he's a regular little guy. They grow so fast, the only thing you can do is record as much of it as possible from the get-go. This is a fun way to start that off right.

So if you're a wedding client reading this,. . . remember us after the honeymoon, huh?!

Photoshop Fun

I've got to hand it to Katie, she's really amazing with Photoshop. She can literally turn heads in pictures, open eyes, clear your skin better than any make-up person on your wedding day and even do free plastic surgery if needed! But this one I really liked because it just takes a simple picture and makes a bit more of it. What once was a typical picture now takes on a whole new feel. It's just fun and nice. Of course, not all pictures have to be done with this type of an effect, but it goes to show the possibilities of images and Photoshop.
If you can't tell, I really love engagement sessions. This was done this afternoon at Harvard Square and Memorial Drive with Lauren and Chris. We did a ton of pictures and they were just a genuinly fun couple that really got into it. We had a lot of fun.

Guest Books

What options do you have for guests to sign at your wedding? Well, you can do the traditional "Guest Book" that everyone has, or you can get creative. Of course, there's the option of getting a framed signature mat (and yes, we can help you with that as well). Or you can try having people sign a platter or etch into a pewter serving tray, but these types of surfaces can be easily damaged and fill up fast.

The best option we've seen to-date is a customized Guest Book created specifically for you. We are thrilled to now offer this service to our customers. We can take your images from baby-pictures through your engagement session and lay out a customized Guest Book to suite your style and taste. We can coordinate it with your colors and theme to be presented perfectly at your wedding.

The layout format is the exact same as that of a wedding album allowing full page graphics with areas designated for guest comments. Rather than just getting a signature your family, friends and guests will have the ability to fill the pages with all the comments they'd like.

This customized book is available for only $125 to our clients. Definitely a great idea!

Personalized Website's

We're very excited to launch a new service to our clients. Going forward, each event's online galleries will be hosted within it's own personalized Flash driven website. The website can be customized to reflect your colors and includes a slide show feature to sample some images. To see some samples click here
Another great tool of this website is that we can create the website before the pictures are even in the galleries. It will allow your family, friends and guests to go on and register an email address so they can be notified as soon as the images are online. (Don't worry, we don't share email addresses with anyone else and won't use them for any other purposes).

There is also a possibility that YOU can be given full admin rights to the site and customize it the way YOU would like to. You can add music, put the pictures in the slideshow, choose your colors and really make it your own.

This all comes standard as part of your package and is retro-active to all 2008 clients who have already signed contracts with us!

Princeton and Newport

This weekend was great.  I started at the Harrington Farm in Princeton MA.  I haven't been there in about 5 years and I've been dyeing to get back there.  Thankfully, I'll be back again in just a matter of weeks.  It's an absolutely beautiful location set on a hill by Wachussett Mountain.  A quaint Inn type feel with a very new and modern reception room.

Jessica and Steven were great.  We did their engagement session just a few weeks ago in Newburyport.  Actually, scroll down a bit and you can see some of those as well.

And then, oh how cool is this!  Finally I have a wedding at Castle Hill in Newport RI.  I've done quite a few engagement sessions there, but never a wedding.  The grounds are just perfect. Celia and Kevin really got lucky with the weather too.  It was supposed to rain, but it held off the whole night.  It was an outdoor ceremony on this amazing overlook of the bay.  Celia had everything planned so well!  We got the formals done in record time and had at least 30 minutes just to take pictures of the two of them.  That's unheard of.  Between the beauty of the location, the overcast sky and a couple of secondary lighting tricks we got some stunning pictures.

Oh, and then just a funny side thing.  So while at Castlehill I thought I'd try to take a nice "Night Shot" of the tent lit up.  It was pitch dark and even with a really really delayed exposure on a tripod it just wasn't coming out.  It was just a big bright strip of light in the middle of darkness.  Then all of a sudden this guy came along to breakdown the ceremony chairs and happened to be driving by on a golf cart.  He didn't even know it, but he lit up the scene perfect.  I was so excited.  For that coockie reason I LOVE this shot.  It just looks so dramatic like you can pick out every blade of grass and every branch of the tree.

Dance Pictures

This past weekend we did a photo-shoot at the Expressions Dance Studio in Weymouth. You want to talk about adorable?! I've got two daughters ages 6 and 3 and it's really just so cute to see the little girls all done up in their outfits. We had a really great time taking a ton of shots. We didn't just put the camera on a tripod and take the same stagnet pictures over and over for every kid. We got the camera off the tripod and got different angles and close-ups and just lots of fun fun pictures. It went so smooth too, we weren't rushed or anything.

For any parents that may be here, all the pictures are online already. The orders for your packages are going into the lab shortly with your childs best image. Additional prints can be ordered through the website. Remember though, you can contact us to get all the original jpeg files on CD for only $50 so you can have every image of your child and group shots on CD with a copyright release so you can print as many as you want and have the digital negatives. It's really a great deal. You got to go through us though, it's not offered online.

Jessica and Steve's Newburyport Engagement Session

I'm so excited I got to go back up to Newburyport and Plumb Island last night for an engagement session. There is SO much to offer up there for great pictures. It's such a quaint little area with lot's of little shops and unique little touches everywhere you look. It really let's me get creative. Here's a teaser of a few of those pictures:

Down this little side alley there is this amazing mural. Why it's there, I have no idea. You'd never notice it unless you knew to look for it.

I was just having a little fun here using an off-camera flash to make the shadow.

I love this shot. The silhouette against the deep blue is really nice.

Yeah, it was really,. . . really cold.
I love this store's sign. How perfect!

Thanks Jessica and Steve! You guys were awesome. Here's a link to your gallery so you can see all your pictures!

Love is Patient

For those who voted "Love is Patient", . . . you win! It got a blue ribbon at this years Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts annual competition. I learned a lot by attending this years seminar. Most importantly I realized just how much manipulation people do to prized pictures in Photoshop. I had always been more of a naturalist presenting the pictures "As-is" figuring that Photoshop is more of a crutch to fix what couldn't be done naturally "In-camera". But after really analyzing some of the pictures that were ranked highly I can appreciate some of the effects done post-production.

For those keeping track, Love is patient got 42% of the vote with The Eternal Promise coming in second at 28% and the other two at 14% each.

PPAM Award Winning Prints

So a couple of weeks ago we participated in the annual convention for the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts (PPAM). We entered a few of our favorite pictures from the 2007 season into their competition. It's really a big deal because it's really the best of the best of all photographers in the state. There are three levels of recognition; white, red and blue (blue being the best). They didn't give out many blue's this year, so it's quite an honor.

One of these got Blue, the rest Red. Can you pick which got the Blue Ribbon? Complete the survey to the left!
